Public Reading of Scripture
Welcome to the Public Reading of Scripture app! This app brings the church back to the practice of reading and listening to the Bible in community. Reading the Bible together in community has been a foundational practice for God's people throughout history, from the time of Moses to the early Christians. The Public Reading of Scripture app allows you to participate in this practice with your own communities.
The app provides different reading plans for 20, 30, 45, or 60 minutes, depending on the preference of your group. Each session starts and ends with a Psalm as an opening and closing prayer, and includes readings from the Old Testament and New Testament. The 45-minute and 60-minute reading plans cover the Old Testament once and the New Testament twice over a span of two and a half years.
To enhance the understanding of the passages being read, the app also includes optional videos from The Bible Project, which provide helpful context, such as narrative structure, themes, and historical background. The app encourages brief pauses between readings for prayerful reflection.
